About Us

My parents, Jim and Rose Leary, opened Leary's Tavern in 1973 in the small town of Croydon in PA. Our family business became a successful bar and tavern loved by the locals. We were known for my Mother's homecooked dishes, blackboard specials and of course our well-known cheese steaks. After 20 years, we decided to sell Leary's Tavern and move to South Florida where we now call home.

In 2016, Philly Down South was created to bring that delicious taste of Philly to South Florida but with a Southern twist. Philly Down South Cafe is excited to now call Hutchinson Island our newest home. You can find us right outside of the Elliott Museum under our new Tiki Hut and just steps away from the beach!

On our menu, you can find those classic Philly selections along side unique dishes that will make your taste buds go wild. Pair any of our dishes with our full bar list that also includes craft beers, specialty wines, and tropical cocktails. Philly Down South has so much more to offer too! Inside the Museum on the second floor our private restaurant offers Dinner Shows, Comedy Club Shows, Private Celebrations, & Special Events - contact us for details. Check out our Event page for more details and holiday events.

Come in and check us out where you will find great food, great people and a great atmosphere!
